Last Friday they finished the garage floor and started to smooth more of the dirt hills.
Our lovely neighbors, the VanWagnens had us over in the late afternoon to show us where we could possibly park our travel trailer as they have full hook up. We'd have a perfect view of the building site and it would be very convenient as our living quarters for the next few months. They even offered a bathroom and laundry. We are very blessed to have such generous friends. Meanwhile, their son and his wife are also going to build by the end of the summer and will be living there in the mother in law apartment with their three kids. Oh, and of course, we all have a dog. Since it all feels like we'll be at the VanWagnen Camp, Bob's interest was when meals would be served. I had to kick him under the table. Anyway, if we all stayed in the frame of mind we were in Friday, life will be lots of laughs. However, I'm sure it will continue to be an adventure and a roller coaster.
I met with the moving company, Two Men and a Truck, and booked them for July 10 to move everything into the garage. We were lucky that Brad and Kathy's closing date on the sale of their house got moved giving us a little more than an extra week. Every little bit helps. The plan is to have our house empty by early afternoon and then carpet cleaners will do their job. The 11th and 12th of July will be moving days for Brad & Kathy.
The weekend was hot and humid and we tried to use it to rest up a little as it was too hot to do a lot of physical stuff and we needed some catch up time. We actually kayaked and swam. It felt like a mini vacation. We took ourselves out to a Chinese dinner and bought new mail boxes for us and a matching one for Scott, our new neighbor. (He was concerned that his old one would look bad next to our new one.) It felt kind of official and we can now start the process of changing our address to 63 Finch.
Monday morning in continued heat and humidity, activity started early. Bob took a cooler of ice and bottles of water to the site. The roofing crew pounded shingles on the hot roof and the builders worked on the siding for the garage. They were all incredible to watch. We were amazed at the progress. Kristi had to finish another job and with the dryness and dust, we felt it was just as well that she wasn't coming till Tuesday. By the end of the day, tempers and tolerance were short but a lot got done.
Tuesday on a much cooler and slightly cloudy day, the roof was finished, more siding was added and Kristi started filling dirt in around our new basement.
We all continue to study siding possibilities for the house and depend on Mike's artistic touch to make it look great. There is so much to consider along with trim, windows and doors.
Now we wait for garage doors to be delivered next week and tresses for the basement ceiling and house floor.
My friend Diane is coming to help me start packing in earnest as she just moved a while ago and is offering her experience.
And we push ahead. I don't think about it. I just keep moving.
If I have said it once I say it every time - WOW!
ReplyDeleteIt really is impressive, love the way you are sharing this incredible experience with us all.
Ant & I are both so in awe of your hard work, perseverance & sheer determination! We salute you!!
Watching your home rise is so exciting - home building in Australia is different - basements are not the norm here,my niece questioned why you had them - I said it was to hold all your holiday decorations!!
You must go to bed of a night feeling exhausted & enthused, apprehensive but unflinching in your determination to fulfil this incredible dream:
I quote- It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old
They grow old because they stop pursuing dreams!!
You & Bob will never grow old!!
We continue to watch & relish the excitement of every step in this remarkable build.
Much love

Robyn, I love and cherish your comments. You always have the right thing to say right down to you are exactly right about basements. Although, I'd add storm/tornado shelter. But mostly it's just like a garage. You fill it up and then have to clean it. And, you put my head back on straight to remember we are pursuing a dream and not trying to see how exhausted we can be. This is exciting and we are blessed and we have to remember what a cool adventure it is.
